"This little Missionary went to the market..."

This little missionary stayed home.

This little missionary had a mango, (cause I didn't have any "roast beef" on hands... Roast beef is REALLY tough here, so I don't buy it much =)

This little missionary had NONE!

and This little missionary cried WEE WEE WEE all the way home!
=)

Thought that you'd like to go along with me to the Fruit and Vegetable, and Meat and Egg market! It opens early every Saturday morning right down from our house. WE ARE VERY HAPPY THAT IT IS THERE!! Do you have your pesos and your market cart ready? And you might want a TOUGH stomach for the first booth that we come to, is where they have just BUTCHERED a cow...and they have EVERY PART of the cow hanging around (And the bloody head laying on the ground) and they sell most of the meat, liver, stomach, guts, foot, etc., for people buy LOTS of that kind of meat around here. UGH!!

Colombia is blessed with many yummy fruits and veggies...although we don't have some here that we are use to, and miss...we are blessed to have Blackberries (THAT ARE VERY TART!!!), bananas, pineapple, green beans, tomatoes, limes, onions, carrots, small potatoes, iceburg lettuce and spinach, platano, watermelon, canteloupe, apples, grapes (WITH SEEDS), mango, maracuya, grananillo (Passion fruit), cucumbers, kiwi, yummy strawberries, nearly year around, peaches, pears, plums, and more.
~This is my favorite booth to come to. This lady and the one above, call their customers names like "My life, my love, my queen, my king, my all, my heart,"...etc. Hilarious! =) They must be Southern bells in Colombian.~

I miss not have yummy raspberries, and blueberries, and a few other things, but we do COUNT our blessings for all the yummy, FRESH things that we have! =) (I might add that I HATE going to this market...BECAUSE with us being fair Gringos and with my 3 blue eyed kids...the whole market stops what they are doing to STARE at us when we walk up. UGH! There's times that I leave the kids with Phillip, just so I won't be stared at quite soooo much. THEN, THEY ALL ASK WHERE MY CHILDREN ARE!! =)

Phillip just posted a new post on his blog about "The Adventures of Sir Bernard"...check it out.

Heather, what a great idea for a post! It's amazing the way technology has changed the way that Missionaries can share their experiences with those of us in the USA.

I really enjoyed seeing a close-up of your life! Keep 'em coming!

Blessings,
Tara

You always do such a good job keeping everyone informed of each step of your life. I love going to your blog as often as I can. I think it is great that you have so much fresh fruits and veggies near you. I would love to be able to visit the market with you.

You are doing a wonderful job. I know that the people over there are so thankful for you guys in their lives.

Love you...Missy

Tara,
It is sooo hilarious...for each time (or at least 3 times or so)that you post a comment on my blog...my sweetie comes in and sees it, and asks the same question..."Who is Tara?" So, I do the same thing over again, and take him to your blog, and show him pics. =) He's a busy missionary, with lots on his mind. =)
God bless you, and may God help us all to do all that we He wants us to do. Have a great weekend in Jesus.
Love, Heather =)

I love seeing how amazing and different your lives as missionaries are! I can only imagine how strange it would be to be stared at all the time. Does your family's "different look" bring people to ask about why you are there? I just wondered if God sent the blond haired, blue eyes to that country to bring people's curiosity around to Him!

Very neat post!! I would love to try some of the delicious fruit. How sweet for Sarah to take her baby with her. Don't you just love for you little girls to want to "mother". It is so God-given!! I try to encourage it to the fullest!! :-)

Oh, Heather - I am so with you in that market with the whole world staring! I go through that so much here in Mexico. Me with my blond hair and these 3 almost white-blonde haired boys...and their blue eyes stand out in any crowd. People comment about them all the time - sometimes I just want to blend in but there's no chance of that.
I loved all your pics. And your list of fruits and veggies - a couple I didn't recognize - maybe they're Columbian and not Mexican. Or maybe in my quest to learn how to live and speak in a foreign country, I have overlooked learning the names of certain fruits and veggies..lol...that is very possible.
I think it would be the neatest thing to visit Columbia someday...si Dios quiere, seria maravilloso!
Que descanses bien esta noche and que tengas un buen dia del Senor manana!

Very cute, creative post. After having been in Mexico a couple summers ago and seeing their open markets, I can sort of imagine what this one is like. I never did get used to all the weird animal parts for sale. It's just disgusting to think they eat that stuff. Ugh.
