~"I Think Your Daughter is pretty"~

Last Thursday night after church, a 12 year old boy was walking beside me and we were all walking to catch our bus to go home. He told me that he thought that my girl was pretty, and that when he and she get older he wants to "TAKE CARE OF HER"! That is the SAD mind-set here, like most of the world now, NOT TO GET MARRIED, just to live together. I told him that when it came nearer the time for her to get a husband that we would be taking her back to the USA to find a man of her own culture. He looked at me and said, "WHAT'S THAT MEAN?" I began to explain that our culture and their culture were 2 different cultures...that we thought differently than they, that we eat differently, etc. And that though it's not a sin for 2 people from 2 different cultures to get married, that it's not wise, for there are MANY MORE adjustments for the couple. When I said that we eat different foods, he asked me, "So, what does your daughter like to eat?" I started naming things like mashed potatoes, hot dogs, pizza, etc. (AND OF COURSE A WHOLE LOT OF OTHER FOODS THAT I DID NOT TAKE THE TIME TO MENTION, nor would he have known what they were) and he got so excited and told me that HE KNEW HOW TO MAKE HOT DOGS...so he could take care of her. HELP! Though this is humorous, I'm already praying for the mates that our children will marry someday. FOR A PERSON'S MATE CAN MAKE OR BREAK THEM...AND CAN HELP THEM ON TO HEAVEN, OR TAKE THEM DOWN THE PATH TO HELL. We do realize too that with our girls having lighter skin and lighter eyes than most people here, we have to be careful and watch our children, and that we DO VERY MUCH! We love the Colombian people, but not for son-in-laws. =) We are keeping in mind that we need to be in the USA before our girls reach the age where some Colombian men want them for their wives. =) (My daughter does NOT know this story! =)

When we lived in the Dominican Republic, there was an older guy who liked me. I think I was 11 or 12 and he was in his late teens or early 20s. It was weird to say the least.

For some reason, different nationalities sometimes attract the other. But, hopefully, your girls will not be that interested in boys before it is time to be seriously interested. As long as you listen to your children's heart to heart talks to you-you should be able to know exactly what is going on in their hearts and heads and help guide them in the way they should go. You are such a wise mama, Heather, and you do have beautiful children. I don't think we can pray enough for our kids. Thinking of you all and hoping you have a blessed day.

I certainly agree with the wisdom of what you're saying, but I do have to say I like the chosen words (or at least your translation) of the little guy, even though they might not have meant to him what they sound like to me;

"I want to TAKE CARE OF HER."

I know WE'RE blessed wives, but a lot of people in our country certainly don't experience that as a reality...probably not really in Columbia either??

It's Jesus who most enables that, isn't it.

Picture is so cute of your little "kitty cats!" :-} I am totally understanding your concerns about your children & mates. I have seen so many young people with same interests, church, friends, etc..., but the mate they chose lead them in totally different directions.

Thanks ladies for your comments. It's not that I think that our children are nicer looking than your children....it's just that they get sooo much attention b/c of their lighter skin, hair, and eyes in this country. What I didn't tell you that was SPOOKY to me...was the 2 men that got on our bus Sunday night. One guy saw my oldest daughters eyes and got the other guys attention and pointed to his eyes and then nodded for him to turn around and see my K. They did thumbs-up signs to each other and smiled and were impressed...AND SHE IS ONLY 9! UGH! But, God is going to protect them, and help them to find the right mates some day with whom they can serve Jesus.

Heather~ =)

Oh Heather, my heart cries out for you! This makes me feel an even heavier burden to pray for you and your beautiful family.

As a Mommy, I understand your passion for wanting your children to find the right mates. I started praying for my children's mates while my kids were still in my womb!

I am praying that God will build a hedge around your family and keep you all safe! - and he is able! Don't let those girls out of your site - not even for a moment!
