~Fun Food Friday...Homemade Bread~

~There's nothing like the smell of homemade bread...~
My sister shared this recipe with me, so I'm sharing it with you.  It's just a simple recipe, but yummy!
~Homemade Bread~
2 cups water
1/3 cup sugar
2 Tabs. of shortening
1 Tab. salt
2 Tabs. yeast
6 cups of flour.  (She has a note that says to NEVER add anymore flour.)
(You read right...this recipe doesn't call for eggs!)
Mix together.  I normally heat my water a tad (but not too hot) to stir in my shortening and yeast, then add the rest of the ingredients.  Knead in the flour at the end.
Let rise 1 hour or until doubled, then put into 2 loaf pans.
Let rise another hour and bake at 325 for 25-30 mins.
Variations:
~I used honey instead of sugar.
~I used 2 cups of whole wheat flour, the rest white flour.
~Spread a thin layer of softened cream cheese on top of each loaf and sprinkle with whole wheat flour (loaf on left) or Parmesan cheese (loaf on right.)
Yum! Yum!  Slather a slice of this fresh bread with butter, apple butter, honey, or jelly...
And as Always...ENJOY!

These two loaves look like a professional baker made them; which one professional baker did do! Smile. This recipe looks absolutely wonderful!
I liked this Fun Food Friday choice of recipe on Uncle Scott's 49th birthday. Love, Mom D

Heather, are you aware Christa's baby was born Sept 25? I thought it would have been interesting if he had been born on Mary's birthday which was also my grandfather's birthday. Of course, Christa was not willing to go another day. :) Leah Fulton has a picture of him on her blog. Always enjoy reading your posts.

Yum! Wonder if it would work with all wheat? Just made some bread this morning, but always looking for new and better recipes! Thanks for sharing....

As for the apple cider, it's SO easy. If you have apple cider, I usually use about 1- 1 1/2 gallon in my crock pot ( or on low on the stove), add cinnamon sticks, as many as you like. Then chop an orange in half and slice it in thin pieces. Let it cook slowly. Once it's warm it starts making your house smell soooo yummy and cozy!! Enjoy =) Hugs, Carla

I've never been a bread maker, but this one sounds like it is easy and might turn out ok . I will have to try it. It looks very yummy!!

My sister Laura tried to leave this comment for Carla, but couldn't. This bread recipe came from her.

Please tell Carla that yes this recipe works fine with ALL WHOLE WHEAT and or ALL SPELT flour either one and it turns out YUMMY. For Kristin P's recipe is the exact same as mine, only it's tripled and makes 6 loaves, where mine makes only 2. but they both taste and work the same!!!

Love ya,
Laura

I remember your first loaf of bread that you baked and I am sure that you do too. It was in a camping oven in North Pole, AK. Daddy wanted to make sure that I taught you girls to bake bread so I started early. Little did we know as we enjoyed your first bread in those circumstances that you would bake in other challenges as well. Larua also has used those skills to touch lives and tummys in a far away land. Love, Moma
