~Prioritizing our Pinterest...opps! I mean INTEREST!~

I've been thinking recently about responsibilities and pleasures.  Let's face it, it's a lot more FUN to do things like bake, crafts, fun shopping, Pinterest, blogs, etc. then to do the nitty gritty things like wash the never-ending pile of dishes, or the laundry which multiplies on it's own in the laundry basket.  =)
I think that the devil would LOVE for us to lay aside our FIRST responsibility of being a help-meet to our wonderful husband, and just go through life doing lots of FUN things.  I'm not saying that these things are wrong, but I'm personally trying to focus on making sure that my house is semi-clean, meals are planned and made, a load of laundry is in, etc. before I allow myself some "free time" to do something that I enjoy.  I try to do the same with our children. I challenge them by saying things like: "Let's finish folding the laundry and put it all away, then we can go shopping, or sew, etc."  Try setting a timer allowing yourself only 15 or 20 mins. of fun, while you are waiting for the bread to get done, then, it's back to the kitchen again to finish the rest of the meal.
If you need/want to go shopping, plan your meal and have it in the crockpot, so that when you get home, your husband and family hardly know that you were gone, for they have a nice, hot, yummy meal to enjoy.  =)
I'm not preaching at you, just trying to encourage us as wives to put our God and our husbands first, then our kids next, then when our house is clean, and our meals are planned and hot and ready then we can sneak some "Me time."  =D  (And our "me time" will be so MUCH MORE FUN, knowing that we can enjoy it without feeling guilty that our husband, kids, and house are needing our attention.)
I'd welcome any ideas y'all have in finding the balance between responsibilities and recreation.
And so saying this...I'm off to do more laundry.  =)

Even though I haven't commented too much lately, I've been keeping up with every post.

I agree with you. I am one of those that can't relax and have me time when there are things that need to be done. Great advice that takes great planning. You are the best. love you all tons

I still remember my mom would never get on the computer or do anything "fun" in the morning or until her "work" was done. And always made sure to at least have dinner in the works when dad got home. Thank you for the reminder, I always need to work on prioritizing my time. Its a work in progress. lol

What a nice family picture of you guys. I love Sarah's crown braid. I remember at GBS when you would occasionally comb your hair that way. You looked so elegant with your golden locks fixed that way.
How I appreciate your thoughts in this post. I love it that you try to incorporate these ideas into real life. Phillip and your children are blessed to have a wife and mother, as you are endeavoring to be. With gratefulness, Mom D

A very hearty "Amen!" to your post =) I feel the same way, and sometimes it frustrates me, because I keep finding more things that "need" to be done all day long, and I end up never taking the "me" time ;) I so agree that our families should be taken care of first!
