~Sewwwww fun~

~Sometimes ministry takes a different turn. When we were in Medellin in January, Alberto's wife (a pastor there) loaned me a skirt pattern. I didn't really have the time nor energy to make a skirt, but knew that Phillip was going back to Medellin in 2 weeks and that I needed to send her pattern back to her. I knew that she would ask Phillip if I had made a skirt off of her pattern, and would be VERY disappointed and not understand if he told her no. The problem was that it was a pattern for a patchwork skirt...but she had just traced out "patterns" on paper, saying "cut 1" or "cut 2" and had no instructions on which pieces went together, where to sew on the zipper, etc. Also, since she is much shorter than I, I had to add about 9 " to the length of each piece. (A lot of pieces were rounded and were harder to lengthen) Phillip (and the Lord) helped me cut it longer, and helped me figure it all out, and here is the finished product. As it washes it will "rag" on the edges more.~~Here is the skirt again. I'm happy with how it turned out. Alberto's wife was very happy to hear that I had made a skirt from her pattern. =)~
~About 2 years ago 2 dear ladies from the USA sent me some neat patterns, thread, buttons, etc. to use when I sew. However, right when I received them, I found out I was expecting little Elijah...and I got sooooo sick that I quit sewing. Then we headed to the USA to have him, and then when I got back here I had several adjustments with a new baby, and then started homeschooling 2 girls, etc. So...this loaned pattern from Alberto's wife made me get my sewing machine out and dust it off...and now, the girls and I have been having HomeEc. sewing times. =) I made Sarah this skirt from one of the patterns from one of the dear ladies in the USA. Thank you, Ladies.
~Sarah loves her new twirl skirt. =)~
I have also done some sewing for some girls here in Colombia. I'll post pics soon.

Very cute skirts! You did a great job! I just bought some new fabric and some patterns to sew Callie & I some Easter outfits and can't wait to get started on them! I have been busy sewing purses (trying to use up all those scraps of fabric I have collected :>) and other stuff though! Sewing is one of my favorite things to do! Looking forward to seeing your other sewing projects! :)

Glad to see that skirt that you called for help! However, I did not "see" it this way over the phone! ;-) Glad for the chat even if I did not help. I do like the skirt very much. Perhaps you should bring that pattern home next time. I love Sarah's twillerly(sp)skirt too. Glad that you were willing to give of yourself and time to sew for the girls of Colombia. I love you, Moma

Heather, so glad your skirt turned out soooo nice. It's darling! I could be "empish" and ask you to make me one too! I'm ONLY KIDDING, for I know the STRESS this one caused you... so that is just a crazy joke! You are an inspiration to me... and also adding to my 'guilt trip' too! :) I'm SOOOO glad that Jesus gave you to ME as a sister. BEST EVER IN THE WORLD! Lots of love, your sister, Laura

The skirts you sewed are beautiful, Heather. You are so talented in many, many ways!

I love to sew but the pain of sitting for long periods of time stops me from doing so very often...because once I get started I don't want to stop until the article of clothing I'm sewing is hanging on a hanger on the window ready to be hemmed. I hang it on the window so I'll remember to do the hemming. :>)

My last sewing project was a wedding dress, three bridesmaids dresses, and two flowergirls' dresses for my daughter's wedding in January 2000. I worked on them on evenings and weekends and then ended up having to take a week's vacation from work to sew non-stop to get them finished in time. I know, I know...but I only have one daughter!

God knew exactly what He was doing when He sent you and Phillip to be missionaries (but then He always does). I know the girls in the church you are sewing for every now and then will remember your kindness for many years. I once benefited from a kind pastor's wife in Arizona who made an Easter dress for me when I was in 3rd grade. How I loved that dress, and how I loved that lady! Our family remain friends with her family to this very day. I think you might have known her...she was a very young Evelyn Black, wife of Don and mother of Lindell who is married to Phillip's cousin Rebecca Smith Black.

See how the small things you are doing will influence the young people in your church for a very long time? God bless you.

Love you all...
