~Sad news & Fun Food Friday...French Breakfast Muffins!~

Well, we've just discovered that as far as we can tell people have been stealing things from our suitcases as we travel internationally.  Phillip just read in the news recently that a lot of people are getting things stolen in the airports.  He read of one guy who has stolen $50,000 worth of electronics from suitcases, then sells them on e-bay that same day!!!  When Melanie brought us that suitcase from my parents in there was an unopened mailing package with a CD from Daniel and Angie Edwards to our family.  It never arrived!  (My Moma and sister have searched their houses and can't find it!!) So, for now, we believe it must have been stolen. I had asked that our personal notes from our supporters be brought so we could read them (the monetary gifts had already been removed and deposited into our account back in the USA.)  That package of mail never arrived either!  Evidently someone thought it was going to be some FAST CASH!  [So, if you have sent us a personal note to our USA mailbox after Jan. 2011, if there was anything we need to know from your letter, please email us.]  When we came here back to Colombia in Jan. I was missing a neat brand new 2011 refrigerator calendar and Noah's brand new Walkie Talkies (Still in the package...He never got to play with them).  I KNEW that I had sent them upstairs to put with our suitcases that were going to Colombia, so I was confused.  I finally thought that I must have accidently left those in our USA house.  My sister and her Brittany just SEARCHED OUR HOUSE o'er and never could find either item!  So, now I realize that they must have been taken from our suitcases.  WEEP!!  SAD!! SNIFF!!  My brother-in-law has lost things too.  Only the Lord knows what all we have lost out of our suitcases.   We pack and  send suitcases of our things back w/ family, they put them in our house, and then the suitcases don't get unpacked for several months or YEARS, so by that time we don't even remember what was in them !!  =(
So, this is a warning to you...that if you are going to fly and are packing mail items, or electronics, or anything NEW,  I'd pack those in my carry-on!!!
~French Breakfast Muffins~
I saw this recipe on BHG daily recipe and what they said caught my eye.
"With its sugar and cinnamon topping, this prizewinner may be the most delicious muffin you'll ever taste."
So, I made them.  I can't say that they're the most delicious muffin I've tasted, but we did enjoy them.
~French Breakfast Muffins~
1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
1/2 cup sugar
1 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
1/8 teaspoon salt
1 egg
1/2 cup milk
1/3 cup margarine or butter, melted
1/4 cup sugar
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1/4 cup butter or margarine, melted.
1. In a mixing bowl combine flour, the 1/2 cup sugar, bak. powd., nutmeg, and salt. Make a well in the center of the dry ingredients.
2. In another bowl beat egg slightly; stir in milk and 1/3 cup melted butter.  Add egg mixture to flour mixture.  Stir just until moistened. (Batter may be lumpy.)  Lightly grease muffin cups. (I wondered why they didn't use muffin cups...but I was in too much of a hurry to make these for our breakfast.  I then discovered after they baked...when I went to dip the muffins in butter and cinn. sugar...WHY they had chosen not to use muffin cups.  =) So, I just brushed my muffins with melted butter and sprinkled the sugar on.)
Fill cups about two-thirds full with batter.  Bake in a 350 oven for 15-20 mins.  Immediately dip tops of hot muffins into the 1/4 cup melted butter then into the cinnamon sugar mixture.  Serve warm.  Makes 12.  (Not sure if it will be different in the US...but here in high altitude it BARELY made 12 muffins, and they didn't rise very high.)  But, they were yummy.
And as always...ENJOY!

Sorry for the loss of things. It is so sad that people have the nerve to bother things that isn't theirs. I don't know how they sleep at night. Happy to hear the Hausmans are coming. You are so blessed. love you tons

Yes, Kira, Phillip said that we could use locks and plastic wrap on our suitcases...but that when we arrive in the next country (ie; USA, or Colombia) they will have to tear open the locks or plastic and DIG THROUGH our suitcase for "safety reasons." =(
